Commandline of GRUB 1

setup Loader of GRUB to bootsector to Partition /dev/hda4, root in /dev/hda6

root  (hd0,5)           # changes to this partition, writes into this partition 
                        # installs grub by setup 
find  /boot/grub/stage1    # finds boot/grub/stage1 in partitions e.g. (hd0,3) and (hd0,5)
setup  (hd0,3)   # installs grub in bootsect of partition (hd0,3)
quit

works if err-msg: no bootsector found

10 : "Bad file or directory type"
     This error is returned if a file requested is not a regular file, but something like a 
     symbolic link, directory, or FIFO.

   DOS / Win98 - BootDisk: fdisk /mbr

grub-install --no-floppy --root-directory=/mnt/hda1 hd0,0
# installs files to /mnt/hda1/boot/grub
# installs grub to bootsector of hd0,0 ( = HD 0x80, part 1)
